There are a lot of reasons I've never written a book before, some more laudable than others, but one of the chief reasons is fear. And it's not fear of man so much as it is fear that what I write will not stand the test of time. That my opinions will change or my life will change or you will change me or the world will change us. I fear falling off the shoulders of giants who have held me up. I fear shifts in theology. I fear my words will not be true, good, beautiful. Most of all I fear that I lack the integrity I believe necessary to put forth work in the world that adorns the gospel and exalts Christ. I believe there is so seismic misstep ahead for me or a mistake that renders my words meaningless or empty, like so many in Christian ministry today.

But I also believe in grace. Most of all I believe God has it for others and in my better moments I believe God has it for me. And so I have to believe he has it for this book as well.

In one month she will be in your hands. I wrote in the afterword that I pray my words would be like dew because I know God alone will always be true. The words in this book will not stand the test of time. It will land in a landfill in a short time. You may cast it aside after the first chapter. But what keeps me going this month is that God never changes and I always will.

So. I wrote the book. I wrote the words. Still fearful (even today). But trusting the sieve of the Holy Spirit will catch the less than true, good, or beautiful in it, and allow the rest to water some parched places. It fed me to write it. I hope it feeds you to eat it. You can read the first chapter here right now.

The launch team sign-up for Handle With Care opens today here. The sign-up will close on Friday. A good friend of mine will be running the team and she has so many great ideas and plans for prizes, prompts, and more. I know there will be tons of books given away in there, including Handle With Care, as well as some of my personal favorite things like beeswax candles, my favorite planner, linen hand-towels, and more. Plus you’ll get to read the digital copy of Handle With Care right away with a group of fantastic folks! We’d love for you to join us!
